To create whiteboard animation, we need a great script and a virtually captivating storyboard. The only way to do that is by using graphics that are made of high-quality images. Using funny characters and fantastic storylines is an excellent boost for your video. The good thing is that Doodly provides both high-quality graphics and tons of fun characters and props.
Finding the right assets for your video can take time, especially if this is your first time creating an explainer video. That is if you don’t know where to look. While we can google those images, most search results would lead to images with either watermark or clickbait. Some legit sites require you to sign up and pay to use their pictures.
So, where can we exactly find characters and props if we can’t find what we’re looking for in Doodly’s asset list?
Websites like pixabay, freepik, and other similar sites are just some of the websites that provide royalty-free images. They offer both premium and free graphics that you can use. Some require attribution to give credit to the graphic creator. You can download and use their pictures in Doodly. Just like these websites, we can also get our graphics from PowerPoint. Yes, you heard it right! While PowerPoint’s primary function is to create presentations, it is also a great graphic source. From shapes and icons to images and even animated graphics. Unlike many websites that provide royalty-free images, with PowerPoint, you have an option to customize some graphics. You can choose a color, add a border, pick which angle to capture, and more.
This article will look at the different graphic types that PowerPoint offers. We will also have a walkthrough on how you can extract these images and import them into Doodly.
The graphics that we can get from PowerPoint are not just limited to shapes and icons. With PowerPoint, we can export charts, different images, 3D graphics, and even animated images.
Here’s a sample of some of the assets that we have exported from PowerPoint:
To access the assets from PowerPoint, we have to click the INSERT tab. From here, you will see a list of things under the box Illustrations. This is where we will get our graphics.
Colors are attractive. It makes any asset in our scene distinctive. We want our viewers to quickly grasp our topic by highlighting our subject line and one way to do that is by adding colors to it. Let’s keep our bullet points or subheaders in black & white. By doing so, we are giving the spotlight to our headline.
Under the Icons tab are 7 sub-tabs that you can choose from. These are Images, Icons, Cutout People, Stickers, Videos, Illustrations, and Cartoon People.
We love the icons because they provide cutouts of real and cartoon types of people. There are faceless cartoon characters that you can customize and add faces with different emotions.
Have you ever had the challenge of wanting to make a particular character move or change its orientation, but you’re stuck with its position? Thanks to Doodly, we have an option to flip characters from left to right or vice versa. But what if you want to tilt your props a little, move them up or down? Or maybe make them look back?
With PowerPoint’s 3D models, you can move the graphics and set them to your desired position. You can rotate the character in any direction you like.
Another great feature of PowerPoint is that it provides animated images that we can save as GIF files. You can import these images in Doodly. These images add up animation and creativity to your video.
PowerPoint also provides an option to use SmartArt, making your data presentation more virtually engaging and pretty. It offers different styles of flow charts and diagrams that you can choose from.
You can also choose SmartArt > Pictures if you need to attach images to your chart.
PowerPoint also provides pre-made charts that are very useful when presenting data. Several templates are available for you to choose from. You can input your data directly in the PowerPoint, save them as images, and use them for your Doodly presentation.
After choosing a graphic, it’s time to export them. To do that, right-click using your mouse and save the image as an SVG file.
It is best to save the graphics as SVG. That way, even if we expand the image in Doodly, you don’t lose the image quality.
As we have mentioned, for animated 3D models, we can save them as a GIF file and import them to Doodly. You can choose from the animated graphics available, set up their size, and set the action you want them to do.
When you’re happy with the animation, save it by clicking File > Export > Create an AnimatedGIF, then Save the file into your Downloads folder.
There are also times when we need to make certain props smaller, but some images just can’t be adjusted. With PowerPoint, we can create the graphics we want and apply the ideal size we like. This is very handy for explainer videos that require specific shapes. When you want your shapes to have the same sizes, colors, and style, the best way to do it is by creating your own shapes using PowerPoint.
To import a file in Doodly, select Props from the Assets tab and click the “+” sign. Locate the file on your computer, and hit Continue. If you can’t import your file, try moving it to your Downloads folder, then try to import it again.
If you are importing a GIF file, you may need more time for it to display the action. To do that, add extra time at the end of your scene.
Now let’s take a look at our imported GIF image:
The next time you create an animation video, try exploring the options available within PowerPoint. You will be surprised will all the great graphics they have. Most of us have PowerPoint installed on our computers already, so it is very convenient to use, it is for free, and the best part is you can customize some of the graphics to suit your needs. We hope this inspires you to create more fun and exciting explainer videos. See you on our next blog.
