In today’s blog we will go over another great customization feature in Doodly. This time, we will look at personalizing each scene in our video.
The Scene Settings is where all the adjustments are made per scene. Though it may look similar to Video Settings, the two are totally different. Changes made within Video Settings impact the entire video whereas the changes made within Scene Settings only affect the current scene that you are working on.
Let’s take a look at the features available within Scene Settings. From the Edit Video page, the Scene settings is located at the right-side of your screen, just below the Actions menu. Once you click it, it opens the Scene Settings menu:
Just like the video settings, the scene settings is divided into three columns and we will look at the features within each column one-by-one.
1 – Use board and hand style from video settings
The default setting of your video is to use the board and hand style you have selected after you clicked “Create New Video” from Doodly’s main page.
This means that whatever board style you have chosen, that will be your hand and board style across all scenes.
If you turn off the option “use board and hand style from video settings“, it enables the board and hand style settings within scene settings allowing you to make changes.
2 – Preview
Preview lets you see the board style you choose within scene settings including the hand style that goes with it. If you decide to change the hand style and select from the many hand options provided, you also get to see this in the preview box.
3 – Background Style
Depending on your story flow, some video animations would require you to have multiple board styles.
If you need to change just one scene’s board or background, you can go to the scene settings and choose from the board options we have.
We have 6 types of background:
Each board style has a corresponding hand style option and the number of hand styles depends on the board style selected.
Below is the current count of hand styles per board. These numbers may change as we continuously update the software.
4 – Doodly Rainbow
Doodly rainbow allows you to turn on and off the color of your assets, so you can switch from black and white to colored characters, props, and scenes. Note that this feature is only available to those who added the Doodly rainbow in their Doodly package.
There are several locations within Doodly where you can enable or disable Doodly Rainbow. When you turn it off from the scene settings, it only turn off the colors of the assets on your current scene. The existing as well as the succeeding scenes will still be colored.
5 – Hand Style
The middle column of the scene settings shows all the different hand styles.
We have 4 hand style options:
For cartoon hand, you can choose if you want to use a 2D or 3D hand.
If using custom color or image, you can choose to use either a marker or a chalk for the hand writing.
6 – Exit Animation
Exit transitions are animated-like effects that happen when your scene finished presenting and is moving from one scene to another. If you want to have a different exit animation per scene, you can set it up here.
There are 6 exit animations to choose from:
Swipe left is the default exit animation but you can always change it to any of the above animations.
7 – Extra time at the end
Extra time at the end adds time to a scene before a new slide is shown. By default, the extra time given for every scene ending is .5 seconds. You don’t necessarily have to add extra time in the end to each scene but there are certain scenarios that would require you to have this.
Here are some of the reasons why you need to add an extra time in the end of your scene:
Extra time in the end is applied right after all hand drawing has been completed. This is different from extending your scene’s duration in the timeline. Adding extra time in the end adds time to your scene without extending the duration of your assets animation.
8 – Subtitle
This menu in the scene settings lets you add captions to your scenes. Apart from allowing you to input your subtitles, it also gives you control if you want to turn on or off a subtitle on a specific scene. Subtitles can be personalized too. You can change its font color, modify the size, add a background to your text and you can also adjust its opacity.
If you wish to disable all subtitles in your video, you can go to Video Settings and disable it from there.
Wow.. we have just completed our detailed walkthrough of the scene settings, I hope you enjoyed it.
My personal favorite feature within scene settings is probably the subtitle and the extra time in the end. They’re both very useful and exciting to use. What’s your favorite Doodly feature? Let us know by sending us your comments. Don’t have Doodly yet? It is never too late to try. Join us today 🙂
