While the assets that come in every Doodly package are very handy when working on your animated videos, once in a while you want to use a certain image for your presentation. Doodly allows you to upload your own image and apart from that, you can also create draw paths on each item.
On this blog, we will talk about not just creating draw paths but we will also look into the following:
You can always personalize your presentation by using your own assets and Doodly allows you to upload these objects without any hassle. I’m talking about images, audio files, and fonts. We will go through each asset and we will look at the process on how they are being uploaded in Doodly. Let’s start with Images.
Here are the steps on how you can upload your own images in Doodly:
Log in to your Doodly account.
Click Create New Video, type in the title of your first video then hit Create.
From the Edit Video page, head over to the Assets Panel which is located on the left side of your screen and click on Props.
Hit the “+” sign to upload your image then select Continue.
You can also just drag the image from the desktop into the “Add new prop” pop up window.
Note: If you’re having a hard time uploading the image from your desktop, try to move it to the Downloads folder and upload it from there.
So we have just completed the process of uploading your own image. Now let’s look at the process of importing an Audio.
To import an audio file:
1. Go to the Assets Panel and hit Sounds.
2. Click the “+” sign and locate the audio file saved on your computer. You can also just drag and drop files on the pop-up “Add new sound” box.
3. Lastly, don’t forget to hit Continue to save the new audio file.
If you just recently purchased Doodly, you probably only have a few fonts available in your asset panel’s font section. Or maybe you wanted a specific font that is currently not included in your font list. The good news is, there are lots of online resources which allow you to download fonts for free. One of which is fonts.google.com.
1. Scroll through your available fonts in Doodly. Make sure that the font you’re looking for is really not on the list of available fonts. We don’t want any duplicates so it would be best to check first.
2. Next, go to fonts.google.com and select the font that you need.
3. Once you found it, click it and download the font.
4. Locate the downloaded file and unzip it.
5. Upload the .tff file in Doodly.
6. You can now use the new font in your Doodly project.
Doodly does its best to draw your imported image by doing a scribble pattern that goes from left to right. If you want to make the drawing pattern a little more precise, you can tell Doodly exactly how to draw it by selecting the image and clicking the pencil icon.
Clicking the pencil icon opens up the Edit Asset screen where you have different menus to use when working on your draw paths:
The live preview lets you see the applied changes to your image. As you add your draw paths, you get to preview the changes real-time. You can zoom it in for better viewing. You also use this to check if you missed a spot when creating your draw paths.
There are 3 options available for the background of your image: white, black, and transparent. Since the object used in the example below is drawn in black, we don’t need to change the background. We can keep its white background which is the default option. For images that have a lot of light colors, we can use either black or transparent.
This is your save button. You can either Save & Return, or Return without saving.
The tools menu consists of: Move point, Add point and Delete point. You use these when adding, moving, or deleting your draw paths.
This menu allows you to increase or decrease the size of your draw paths depending on the image’s lines.
The zoom buttons lets you zoom in or out of the image that you’re working on so you can see greater details.
The default duration of hand drawing your image is three seconds. You can slow it down or increase its duration through this menu.
There are 2 options to reveal your image: it’s either Draw or Fade. You use Draw if you wish your image to be drawn by hand when it entered the screen, and Fade is when your image just fades in motion as it enters the screen.
Each stroke is a path. For you to create a new stroke, you need to add a new path through this menu.
Custom draw paths are done manually for png and jpeg images. With an SVG file, there are already paths set so when you import it, Doodly will just draw along those points automatically.
To use an svg image, do the following steps:
1. Import an SVG file. Please note that the maximum image size allowed in Doodly is up to 1920 x 1080.
2. Click the image and select the pencil icon.
3. Once you’re on the Edit Asset screen, locate and click the Load SVG Paths menu which is located at the bottom right side of the screen.
4. Don’t forget to hit “Save and return” to apply changes.
You can also share your images with other Doodly users. To do this, you need to go to the Assets Panel and hit Props.
Locate the image you wish to share and do a right-click then hit Share.
Key in your friend’s email address and click continue.
To see the shared assets by other Doodly users, simply go to Assets Panel > Props > and hit the Shared tab.
To export assets, locate the asset you wish to export from the Assets Panel. Right-click on the image then hit Export.
Note: You can only export your own uploaded images or those that has been shared.
For more assets, you can always visit the Doodly Marketplace.
