So you just recently purchased Doodly and wanted to use it to create a presentation for work. Problem is, you are pressed with time and needed to send the presentation ASAP. Now you have to work on your scenes, pick which assets to use, think of a great script and you can’t do all that immediately. The good news is, Doodly provides you templates that you can use as a guide when creating your animated videos.
On an impulse, we would usually just go dive in and create videos from scratch without having any plans on what assets to use, what the flow of the scene is, etc. We just do it and build the video right away. There’s nothing wrong with that, but these Doodly templates can actually give you great ideas on how you can execute your videos better especially if you are in a hurry. It saves you time from repeatedly revising your scene or script.
In today’s blog, we are going to use one of Doodly’s templates. We’ll show you how you can customize it to match your needs.
You can see Doodly’s templates on its main page right after you log in. These templates are all free. They come pre-installed in Doodly and you can use them however you like.
When you click on the Templates tab, you will see that it has several categories to choose from. Every video within a category has different presentation styles. If you want to view a template first before using it, you can do so by hovering your cursor to one of the videos and click preview.
If your niche is not in the category, you can use the closest one and edit it to fit the video style you want. Another option is to browse through Doodly’s marketplace to see more template options.
Since we have a lot of doodlers from the education niche, let’s use a tutorial services template.
With our chosen sample template, you will see that it already has a script, assets, and background music. We can add a voiceover right after we have edited everything. Note that these templates are generic since we want as many doodlers as possible within the same niche to be able to use them.
The tutorial services template is under the category – Explainers.
As soon as you clicked the template, it will prompt you to create a title. You can always change the title at any point so don’t spend too much time thinking of the perfect title if you have not decided on it yet. You can even leave it blank and just set up the title at a later time.
You can go scene by scene and edit the texts. For our tutorial services template, we have a total of 6 scenes to review.
With scene 1, the text looks okay although you can always change it if you want to. You can improve it by changing the text’s font or color and adding other assets. You can customize it however you like. For now, let’s just leave it as it is.
With scene 2, we need to input some information and edit the asset. Here are the actions we need to take:
We have updated our scene 2 and here’s how we did it:
With scene 3, we just have to update the subtitle by placing the grade levels or educational stages that are allowed to enroll for your tutorial services.
With scene 4, you have to input all services offered by your company. Remember that you will be reading this for your voiceover later so make sure that you don’t miss out on the services you wish to highlight. The template scene alone is already good but if you want to add some assets to it, you can definitely do so. Let’s try to import actual students who are enrolled to your services. This is just a sample. You can think of other assets or props that you may want to add in your scenes.
So for scene 4, we added pictures of existing students. These pictures show the actual one-on-one lesson with their tutors. Now remember that adding assets to the template will add more time to your presentation thus we need to adjust timing and that includes your music. If you also noticed, the template that we used has a pan and zoom effect, so we also need to adjust that.
Tip: Prior to modifying your scene, especially if you are about to add an asset, take note of the timing of the music, pan & zoom, and voiceover within the timeline (e.g. when does it end, what’s the animation duration of each asset, etc). Thay way, you know exactly where to position the tracks right after you added your assets.
Scene 5 looks good already. You can add here other specializations you have with your tutorial services, subjects, or topics you wish to highlight.
With scene 6 we have to supply the company’s name as well as the contact details. We also have to adjust the speech bubble making sure it is inside the frame and a portion of it is not being cut.
We now have updated all our scenes. It’s time to add our voiceover.
Here are the steps on how you can add your voiceover:
When you’re happy with the recording, you can start adjusting the volume of your background music. Note that with templates, the volume of your track is already adjusted but you can always either increase or decrease it depending on what is pleasing in the recording. Just make sure that your background music is not too loud so your voice can be heard clearly.
So we have edited the template, we have added our voiceover, reviewed our scenes and now we’re ready to export it. But first, do not forget to turn off your subtitles. For this particular template, we used our subtitles as a script for our voiceover so there’s no need to show it in your video but this is not always the case. You can add subtitles and make them visible in your video but when you do, make sure that the texts won’t crowd your scenes.
Now that we have turned off our subtitles, we can already export our video. Let’s go ahead and do that.
Here now is our final video:
And that wraps up our work with the Doodly template. Let’s make a quick recap of the things that we need to take note of when working on Doodly’s templates.
Review texts on each scene.
Have a quick look at each scene and take note of the texts that need to be updated. Common details that need to be filled in are your business name, year, the types of services you offer, logo, discount or promotions, and contact details. The required details vary depending on the template that you will use.
Review the subtitles.
Just like the texts on each scene, there are some details that need to be updated within subtitles. You can supply on the subtitle field all the important details you wish to mention in your video, especially the services that you offer. Also, don’t forget to disable subtitles before you export your video.
Import assets.
You can either replace or add assets to the template. You can do so by importing them to Doodly. Supported files are PNG, JPEG, SVG, and even GIF. Yes, if you want to see cars moving, or need characters to rise, or a wall clock with hour-hand moving on your presentation, GIF will do the trick for you.
Add a Voiceover.
Make sure that your music won’t overpower your voiceover. Reduce the volume of background music to at least 20 or less for a much more clearer voiceover.
Doodly template is a great tool when creating a presentation. It makes plotting your script easier, it gives you great ideas on how you can execute your videos well. You can modify it to however you like and you can import your own assets too.
Hope you enjoy the basics of modifying Doodly template. You can check out our other blogs to learn more about Doodly’s features which you can apply to these templates. Until next time! 🙂
