Welcome to Doodly! In this blog, we will show you the basics on how to create your first Doodly video.
Let’s start by logging in to your Doodly account.
Once you’re logged in, click the Create New Video menu at the top left-side of your dashboard.
This will open another screen where you can select which board Style you want, place a catchy Title, and choose your preferred Resolution.
You can also set up your resolution on the Video Settings or when you’re about to export your video.
Once you’re done, hit Create.
Now we’re in the main Doodly interface where we have a blank canvas ready for your creative output.
Let’s try to create a short video for a beach scenario. From the Assets Panel, select Scenes.
Let’s search for a premade beach scene.
Having premade scenes makes it easier to conceptualize your video because everything is already in place. It’s a great starting point.
The beach scene we have selected is great because it already has beach chairs, coconut trees, a wide-angle shot of the beach and there’s a little girl playing kite which makes it look lively and fun.
Now I want to make a happy, crowded beach so let’s add some kids running and other people having fun under the sun.
Note: The number of assets available in your Assets Panel may vary depending on your Doodly version.
Another great thing about the premade scenes is that you can move around each object within each scene and adjust their size individually.
You can delete it without having an impact on other objects in your video.
Apart from moving objects and adjusting their size, these four functions: flip, bring forward, send backward, and delete are commonly used too when editing videos.
You can copy an object by doing a right-click using your mouse or just simply using your keyboard’s copy-paste function.
Layers are found within the actions panel.
You will see that each object within the Layers Menu has individual duration and delay.
Each object is defaulted to having a zero delay and 3 seconds duration.
What does that mean? It means that each object is going to appear right after the other and there’s no delay.
It’s going to take 3 seconds for each object to be drawn by hand.
If you want to slow it down and adjust to your voice-over, just change the duration’s timing.
Or, if you want to say something before an object appears, just adjust the delay timing.
The sequence of each item appearing on your video is based on the arrangement of objects set under the Layers Menu.
If you do not want your object to be drawn by hand, you can adjust the duration of the object to zero.
You will also notice that as you lessen the duration, the Scene showing in your timeline also shrinks.
So that’s the basics on how you create your first Doodly video. We hope you enjoy it!
