Video marketing plays an important role in promoting your products and services these days. To have high viewing rate, your uploaded video must be easy to understand and it should be user-friendly. It should have a “recall” factor and an identity. When people watch your video, they should be able to easily identify it by just watching your intro.
An intro is the beginning of your video which can be in the form of a short video clip. It can be animated or just plain texts aiming to establish your identity. It contains your brand and the title of your video. To create that identity, it is important that the intros of your uploaded videos are uniform in format.
Apart from the intro, the way your video ends also impacts your social media presence. Just like the intro, every outro should follow the same format and style. Your outro is like the back cover of your video. It contains your brand name once again and some suggested videos for your viewers to watch. The outro gives you a chance to end your video in a stylish manner instead of just the typical end credits or just showing the word “the end” at the end of your video.
In today’s blog, we will have a walkthrough on how you can create an intro and outro template for your YouTube uploads using Doodly.
We start by opening Doodly.
Select Whiteboard as your board style, give it a title and hit Create.
Deciding how you want to create your intro and what to include on it totally depends on you. Most content creators prefer to add a photo of themselves on their intro just like what we do on our Doodly official page on YouTube.
For our sample intro, we grabbed an image of a girl from pixabay.com to symbolize the photo of our content creator. Pixabay is a website that provides royalty-free images. You can get some background props and images from this website and use them in your Doodly video too.
Don’t forget to rename your uploaded character. By doing this, you can immediately locate your uploaded images should you need to use them again in the future. Also, it is best to use a png file because this supports transparency. Images with transparent backgrounds are way easier to navigate as compared to jpeg files with solid color backgrounds.
The next step is to add your video’s title. You can type in the title straight, or use a speech bubble. You can also add some design to your intro scene, add a logo or background wall.
Once you’re done adding assets to your intro, we then adjust its timing. Remember that your viewers will not watch a 20 seconds intro, some would even skip it. It is important to make it as short as possible. To adjust the timing, reduce or remove the drawing duration of some objects in your scene. You can also rearrange the order of how the objects will appear on your video.
Apart from drawing the objects in your scene, you can also set a fade-in effect.
This time we will set up the camera movement as we play the intro. Since this is going to be a template, how the camera moves will be the same all throughout your uploaded videos. To set up the camera movement, we will apply a pan and zoom effect.
1. From the timeline, click the plus sign to add panning & zooming.
2. Move the pan & zoom effect in the middle. You can always adjust this depending on the timing.
3. We want the camera to start in full screen and end focusing on the speech bubble where the title is being written by hand. Hit Apply after.
4. Add another pan and zoom effect to return to full screen.
5. Unlock START and expand camera coverage to full screen. Do the same with the END and hit Apply.
6. Lastly, if you feel like it needs more time to execute the intro, you can always add extra time in the end.
An outro is the last thing we see after a video ends on youtube. This is where we see some suggested videos right after a video is played. To make things easier, we will use an existing outro and use it as a pattern to create a new one.
A. Take a snapshot of an existing outro on YouTube.
B. Upload it in Doodly.
C. Add two blank scenes.
The last blank scene is where we will put the outro. The middle scene is where the content of your video will be added. Since this is a template that we are creating, we will leave the middle scene blank.
D. Recreate the outro by adding texts and props on top of each asset on the template.
If you can’t find the exact asset like the arrows or shapes, you can always import one in Doodly. As for the fonts, we have lots of great fonts preinstalled in Doodly. If you need a specific font, you can go to Google Fonts, download one, and import it in Doodly. Keep the two video fields blank. We will add the suggested videos on YouTube later.
E. Remove the template.
As soon as you’re done replicating all the assets, remove the template from your scene. You can adjust the layer by arranging the order and turning off the hand drawing animation of some assets.
Now, remember that you are not stuck with this template. You can always change it around, edit it based on how you like it.
When you’re ready to create your YouTube video, duplicate the template and only modify the duplicate version of the intro and outro. To duplicate, we go back to the main screen of Doodly. Locate the template, right-click and select Duplicate.
Don’t forget to rename the copy generated.
After renaming the file, you can start working on the blank scene that we added between the intro and outro. If you need more blank scenes to work on, simply select the middle scene, right-click and select Insert.
You can also add music to your video if you want.
Here’s how you can set up the outro on YouTube.
1. Log in to YouTube and locate the video icon with “plus” sign to upload your video.
2. Set up your video’s title. You can add a thumbnail and fill in other details. Hit NEXT after.
3. Click ADD to apply an end screen or outro.
4. Select the first box with 2 rectangles or you can also just select Element to add video links in your video.
5. Move the playhead to the end portion of the video so you can see if the 2 video fields properly fit your outro. Click SAVE and hit NEXT whenever prompted.
6. Set your video to either private, unlisted, or public. Click SAVE after.
And that concludes our video intro and outro creation. Watch out for more Doodly articles. Until next time! 🙂
