Doodly makes it easy as can be to create an awesome video with music, and in this blog post, we’ll show you exactly how to do it.
But before we get to the step-by-step instructions, we’ll first explain why video music is so important. Then, we’ll demonstrate how you can easily create a doodle video with background music.
We’ll also show you how you can control the audio in your video, so your video sounds as if it were created by a professional.
To kick things off, let’s first discuss why music plays such a critical role in video …
As a video creator, you want to establish a certain ambiance for your video viewers … and there’s probably no better way to do that than with background music.
Background music sets the mood of your video, preparing viewers for what’s to come.
Say, for instance, you want to create a video about a serious problem. Melancholy music will give your video a more somber air, so viewers understand how important your message is.
You can see an example of this in the video below. The slower pace and lower chords of the music indicate that the video’s subject, animal welfare, is a serious one.
By contrast, imagine how much less effective this video would be if it were silent–or worse, if it was delivered while upbeat music played in the background!
As you can see, music plays a big role in the success or failure of a video. Now that we’ve explained why that is, let’s go over the steps for creating a video with music.
In this step-by-step tutorial, we’re going to show you how to create a video using Doodly, our whiteboard animation software that makes it easy for anyone to create a professional whiteboard video–even if they have zero tech or design skills!
Let’s jump right into it …
Doodly contains thousands of custom images in its library. These images include things like scenes, backgrounds, characters, and props, making it a snap for you to find just the right images for your videos.
To create your video, you’ll want to begin by dragging-and-dropping the images you want to use from the library, right onto your Doodly workspace.
For instance, in the example below, we added a beach scene to our video.
Once you’ve added the images you want to use in your video, it’s time to add your text. To do so, just drag-and-drop your chosen font right onto the Doodly workspace. Doing so will open up a text dialogue box …
Add your text to the dialogue box, then click the Done button. Afterwards, you can move the text box around so it’s situated exactly where you want it, just like we did below:
Not only does music set the tone of your video, but it also makes your video that much more engaging. Fortunately, adding music to your videos is a breeze with Doodly.
Even better, you have tons of royalty-free music tracks to choose from. For instance, with a Doodly Standard membership, you’ll get 150 music tracks in your library, and a Doodly Enterprise membership gives you 250 music tracks.
So, now that you’ve chosen the images for your video, your next step is to select the music you want to use. In the example below, we’ve chosen the track, “A New Hope.”
*You also have the option to upload your own music to the Doodly library
Once you’ve selected your music, just drag-and-drop it onto Doodly’s audio timeline:
During this optional step, you may want to edit your music track, so it plays exactly how you want it to. Fortunately, Doodly makes this step a piece of cake!
Say, for instance, you want the music to fade in when the video starts–beginning softly before gradually growing louder. You’d simply right-click on your music file in the audio timeline, then select Fade In from the menu.
You might also want to trim your audio during this step, making it shorter so it matches the length of your video.
For instance, in the screenprint below of the Doodly timeline, you’ll notice that our video is only 44 seconds in length (as depicted by the ruler). By contrast, our music runs for longer than an entire minute–far beyond the length of our video!
To resolve this, we’ll simply go to the spot on our timeline where the music ends, then shorten the music by dragging the music bar to the left:
As you can see below, now our music and video are closer in length. Although the video is still 44 seconds long, the music extends beyond it, lasting for 52 seconds. We did that deliberately, because we don’t want the music to stop abruptly when the video reaches its end.
Instead, we want the music to fade out as the video draws to a close. That fadeout is represented by the light blue arrow that’s shown in the final few seconds of the music.
After you’ve finished creating your video, you can save or preview it with just the click of a button
To preview the video we created for this example, click the Play button below:
Once you’re satisfied with how your video looks and sounds, you’re ready to export it. Doodly allows you to edit your video’s file type, resolution, and quality during the export process. Alternatively, you can always just use Doodly’s default export options.
After you’ve finished exporting, you’ll have a full-fledged whiteboard animation video with music.
And, just like everything else Doodly, the creation process is easy as can be. To learn about other cool things you can do with Doodly, check out our Doodly tutorials.
