Creating a whiteboard animation is fun. You can use it to create any type of explainer video in mind, use different images and just get crazy with all the fantastic creative ideas. With all the great graphics we can use to make our storyboards stand out, have you thought of also adding your own signature to it? Like literally seeing your own personal signature in your video?
Sometimes we have videos that require adding a signature image. If your explainer video is about sales, real estate, or anything that involves an agreement between 2 parties, adding a contract image with a hand signature would look good on it. You can also add your own signature under your profile picture at the end of your video. Say your video is about inviting people for an audition, you can add a clipboard image and add signatures to it. Or, if you are creating a virtual certificate for your students, you can add the signatures of the principal, school head, or school administrators to it.
The hand drawing gesture in our whiteboard looks great seeing it draw images but, it is not only meant to draw. A hand holding a pen animation looks good as well if it writes or signs something. It will surely give your presentation a personal touch.
In today’s blog, we are going to explore the possibility of adding a signature, either generic or your own actual signature to your Doodly videos.
The image format plays an important role in making sure that your imported image in Doodly perfectly blends in.
If you look at our image above, the non-transparent signature covers the seal within the contract. It also has that visible white box behind the signature. Non-transparent images can still be used provided that your background is also white. But if your image needs to overlap with a colored image, a non-transparent background might not just work. To generate a transparent signature, we need to save or extract our image as a PNG file.
To write your signature, you can use a piece of paper or use a digital graphic pad and sign. Whichever option you choose, you will be able to import your work in Doodly.
To use a drawing pad, you don’t necessarily need to install an app on your laptop. The preinstalled drawing apps on your computer might work just fine for you to create your own signature. But, please note that if it doesn’t support a PNG format on export, you may need to install a different graphic design software. This is because we want our output image to have a transparent background.
1. Connect your drawing pad to your laptop and open your graphic design software or any digital whiteboard app.
2. Select your preferred pen, change the color or thickness of your ink if you want.
3. Start writing your name. You can always do CTRL + Z to start again in case you need to change or rewrite your signature. If you are happy with your finished written signature, export it as a PNG file and save it in your Downloads folder.
Now if you want to have more flexibility, more features that will help you enhance how your signature looks, you can always download and use a more advanced digital whiteboard or editing app.
Let’s see how we can use our signature that is written on a piece of paper.
1. Using a clean white paper, start signing your name. Now we know there’s no CTRL+Z when you’re writing on paper when you made a mistake, but you can always rewrite your name on the same sheet, or use a new one.
2. When you’ve chosen the best signature to upload for your Doodly project, take a snapshot of it.
3. Download any app that supports the background removal of an image to your phone. There are several apps on the app market that provide this feature. For our sample, we used remove.bg app.
4. Launch the app and upload your image.
Upload the signature on the app and download the edited version on your phone. Once done, use any file sharing app like google drive, dropbox, email, or shareit (and many others) and save your edited signature there. Log in to the same app on your laptop, download the file and save it on your computer’s Downloads folder.
To import your signature in Doodly:
1. From Doodly’s Edit video screen, go to the Props tab and hit the blue “+” sign.
2. Locate the signature you saved on your computer and import it in Doodly.
3. Since this is an imported image, it will be scribbled diagonally by default. To fix that, we need to add our own draw path to the imported signature.
4. To add a draw path, select the signature from your scene and click the pencil icon.
5. This will launch the Edit Asset screen. Start adding draw paths following your own signature hand stroke. Hit save after.
Let’s check out the output:
As you can see, our signature looks way better with draw paths added to it.
We hope this gives you another great idea that you can use for your future Doodly projects. Until next time!
