If you’re creating an explainer video, chances are you’ve got a script and shot list. Your script usually tells you which images to link to, when, and where. However, it’s not easy for visitors to use all the interlinked information they receive from your video in real-time. That is why adding clickables to your video is such a great idea.
Adding clickable links to your explainer videos can take your audience on an exciting journey as they explore more information about your topic. The best way to add your clickables is through Voomly. Since Doodly is part of the Voomly family, we thought it would be fun to show you how these two siblings can work together.
Voomly is the parent company of Doodly. It’s a cloud-based tool that lets you create amazing online courses. It lets you host and sell your Doodly videos online. Clickables are not just limited to adding links. When we say clickables, it includes all other actions when an image or text is clicked on your video. They can either route you to a website, pause or unpause the video, or let you share the presentation on social media, choose a chapter in your video, and other functions.
Voomly’s video customization feature is categorized into two: General and Integrations. To get to these features, we need first to upload our Doodly video.
With Voomly, you can upload several videos simultaneously, so if you have several videos to work on, you can upload them in one go. Once you have finished the upload, you can see all your videos on the Video Drive tab. You can sort them by name, video duration, number of plays, and file size.
To upload your video, click the upload icon on the upper left-hand side of Voomly.
Voomly has 5 main menus: Video Drive, Courses, Video Players, Interactive Video, and Analytics. These menus provide great features and use, but for today’s article, we will mainly focus on the Video Players menu.
To get to the Video Player settings, click the tiny gear icon on your video’s Preview screen.
You will see that apart from adding clickables, there are a lot of other great features that Voomly offers which can help customize your video. Voomly’s Video Player has two menus: the General menu and Interactions menu. Let’s have a quick look at each feature within these two menus.
Under the General menu, you will see the video player’s settings. The menu is subdivided into Appearance, Controls, Thumbnail, and Security.
1. Appearance
This menu provides options to change the color and skin of your video player. You can personalize the label of your player and add your brand’s logo to it. You can also turn the comments section of your video on and off from this menu. This makes it easy to create a unique and customized look for your player that will match your website or blog’s design.
2. Controls
This menu lets you control how you want your video to start and end. You can set it to autoplay so your video automatically plays as soon as your viewers visit your site. You can also enable or disable the buttons on your video player (i.e. play button, volume button, etc) if you don’t want them to appear on your video. It also lets you customize the play button, making it bigger, smaller, or just uploading your own.
3. Thumbnail
The thumbnail menu is a great way to customize your video thumbnail. You can choose to either use a frame from the video, a custom image, or a loop from the video. This is a great way to make your video stand out and attract viewers.
4. Security
The security menu lets you set up a password for your video so that only authorized users can access it. This is a great way to ensure that your video is secure and only accessible to those who are supposed to see it.
The Interactions menu provides several features that add an interactive element to your video. You can add buttons, annotations, images, and other objects to make your video more engaging and fun.
If you’re ready, let’s learn about each feature as we move on.
1. Button
The button feature lets you add a text on your video. When this is added, you can set it to unpause your video, link a URL or just do nothing when clicked. The button is movable, so you can place it anywhere on your screen. This is a great way to add a call to action or additional information for your viewers.
2. Text
If you want to add a text to your video, you can use the text feature. This is best for placing additional information to your presentation. It is movable just like the button so you can place the text anywhere on your screen.
3. Annotation
When added to your video, the annotation stays fixed at the upper left side of your screen. You can link a URL to it, so your audience can quickly access the information related to the topic that you are presenting.
4. Image Annotation
Just like the annotation, the image annotation also stays fixed at the upper left side of your video. This option lets you upload your logo, or any image you like to link a URL to. It’s a great way to add a bit of personality to your links and a very simple process to set up.
5. Image
The image feature lets you upload a photo that is clickable. It differs from the image annotation because it can be positioned anywhere on your screen. You can either link a URL or make it unpause a video when clicked.
6. Share
The share button on your video provides your viewers an easy way to share your presentation with their network on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. This can help increase your video’s reach and potential impact by making it accessible to a wider audience.
7. Turnstile
Turnstile is a great way to collect information from your viewers. By asking them to input their information, you can get a lot of useful data that can help you improve your website or service. Turnstile is easy to use and provides features that can help you get the most out of your data.
8. Chapters
Lastly, we have the chapters. Adding chapters to your video is a great way to keep your viewers engaged and help them navigate through your content. You can customize the chapter titles and timestamps to fit your needs. This is a great way to keep your viewers engaged and help them find the information they’re looking for.
Overall, Voomly is a good way to add clickables to your Doodly videos. The simplicity and effectiveness of the overall product is what makes it most appealing. You can add clickable elements to your video content so that viewers can jump to specific sections of your video without you needing to stop and restart the video each time. If any of your visitors want to go back to a previous point in the video, they can also easily do so. It definitely makes your Doodly video more interactive, stylish, and fun.
